Dogfight / Quota
Beat your quota
Dogfight (also called Quota) is one of the fairest formats in golf because every player competes against their own personal target rather than directly against each other. Your quota is calculated as 36 minus your handicap, and you earn points using a modified Stableford system. The goal is to exceed your quota — and the player who beats theirs by the most wins. This means a 20-handicapper and a scratch golfer compete on truly equal footing.
Pro Tip
Fair for all skill levels. A 20-handicapper and scratch golfer compete on equal footing.
Rules & Scoring
Setting Your Quota
Your personal quota is 36 minus your course handicap. A 10-handicapper has a quota of 26, while a 20-handicapper has a quota of 16. This is your target for the round.
Stableford Scoring
Points are earned on every hole: Double bogey or worse = 0, Bogey = 1, Par = 2, Birdie = 4, Eagle = 8. The exponential jump for birdies and eagles rewards aggressive play.
Beating Your Quota
At the end of the round, subtract your quota from your total points. A positive number means you beat your quota. The player with the highest number above their quota wins.
Why It's Fair
Because each player is competing against their own target, handicap differences are already baked in. A high handicapper making pars earns the same points as a scratch player making pars, but their quota is much lower.
