Nassau

3-way bet (front, back, total)

The Nassau is arguably the most iconic golf bet in the game. It splits the round into three separate wagers: the front 9, the back 9, and the overall 18-hole total. Each segment is scored independently, which means a player who loses the front can still come back and win the back nine and the overall bet. Nassau can be played as stroke play or match play, and pressing (doubling down mid-round) is a common addition that raises the stakes even further.

Lose the front? You can still win the back or total!

Rules & Scoring

Three Independent Bets

The Nassau breaks 18 holes into three separate competitions: holes 1-9 (front), holes 10-18 (back), and the full 18 (overall). Each has its own wager and its own winner.

Stroke Play vs Match Play

In stroke play, the lowest total strokes wins each segment. In match play, each hole is won or lost individually, and the player who wins the most holes takes the segment.

Side Bets

Many groups add birdie and eagle side pots. Any birdie made earns a share of the birdie pot, and eagles earn from the eagle pot — adding extra excitement to every hole.
